چکیده

VASOPRESSOR. agents produce renal vasoconstrie.tion when administered to normotensive animals and man." Because of this vasoconstrictor activity, the question has been raised whether these agents might not actually be harmful' G to the kidney when used to elevate blood pressure for the treatment of shock. Observations made recently' s indicate that when renal and cerebral blood flow are markedly depressed due to hypotension resulting from ganglionic blocking agents, administering a vasopressor agent will actually increase blood flow to these vascular beds. Although the circumstances are not analogous to shock, these results do suggest a paradox since, when vasopressor agents are administered to normotensive subjects, and the blood pressure is raised to hypertensive levels, cerebral and renal blood flow are depressed. The current observations were made on dogs in order to determine whether the administration of vasopressor agents would increase renal blood flow in the presence of hypotension due to hemorrhage. Concurrent observations were made on cardiac output. Since adrenergic blockade has been reported

Relationship between renin and intrarenal hemodynamics in hemorrhagic hypotension.

In order to investigate the possible role of the renin-angiotensin system in the regulation of intrarenal hemodynamics in hemorrhagic hypotension (HH), seven mongrel dogs have been studied under the following conditions: (a) Control, (b) HH (mean arterial pressure 70 mm Hg), and (c) HH + alpha adrenergic blockade by phenoxybenzamine (HH + POB). The following parameters were obtained for the rig...

Cardiovascular effects of sustained norepinephrine infusions in dogs. IV. Previous treatment with adrenergic blocking agents.

Sustained infusions of norepinephrine (NE) are known to produce deleterious pathophysiologic effects on the circulatory system. The mechanisms responsible for these effects were investigated in 25 dogs; 17 were treated with selective block of alpha receptors by phenoxybenzamine or of beta receptors by propranolol, or by both agents, and then infused with NE (4 /ig-kg--min-) for 4 hours; 8 contr...

Crossing interaction of adrenergic, cholinergic, histaminergic and opioidergic systems on water intake in adult male rats

Several lines of evidence have indicated that many nuclei in the brain including preoptic nucleus, AV3V, subfornical organ, septal area and lateral hypothalamus are the targets of efferents from chemo-sensitive and pressure-sensitive systems. These areas may concern with regulation of fluid homeostasis. In the present study, intracerebroventricular injections were carried out in all experiments...

Effect of Endothelin-A Receptor Blockade on the Early Phase of Ischemia/Reperfusion-Induced Acute Renal Failure in Anesthetized Rats

Background: Previous studies have shown increases in endothelin (ET) concentration of plasma and renal tissues in acute renal failure (ARF).  ET has a potent vasoconstrictor effect, through binding with its ETA receptors, and may play some roles in renal hemodynamic dysfunction in ARF.Objective: To examine the beneficial effect of a selective ETA-receptor antagonist on renal dysfunction and tis...
